Continuing the 44-year revival of an ancient tradition
The annual Beating the Bounds took part over the weekend, starting with the generous hospitality at Ebbsfleet United Football Club. Raising money for Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund, ellenor and the Waterside Parents Centre. A little over 30 miles over two days. Volunteers trekked the borough boundary continuing the 44-year revival of an ancient tradition and raising money for the Mayor’s charities.
Beating the bounds is an ancient English custom. Before modern maps and ordnance surveys, communities walked the limits of their parish or borough annually to ensure young people and locals remembered where the boundaries lay.
