An invite to the Palace Garden party
My wife, Kerry and I were truly honoured to be invited to this year’s Buckingham Palace Garden Party.
It was a very special occasion, surrounded by so many incredible people who give their time so selflessly to help others. The gardens themselves were stunning, beautifully set out with a large lake. Walking through them gave us a quiet moment to reflect on the past five years and everything that has been achieved.
In that moment, it was impossible not to think that none of this would exist had our lives not changed so tragically nearly six years ago, when we lost Elliott to suicide at just 19 years old. The Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund CIC was born from the darkest time in our lives, and standing there at Buckingham Palace was a powerful reminder of how heartbreak has been turned into hope for so many young people.
Thanks to an incredible team of volunteers, the support of our community, businesses and organisations in Gravesham, more than 600 young people have now accessed rapid mental health support when they needed it most.
The journey has been one of immense pride and deep sadness all at once. I think one word sums it up perfectly… bittersweet.
Thank you to the Lord-Lieutenant of Kent for the invitation. It was truly a very special and memorable day.
