10th October – World Mental Health Day
10th October is World Mental Health Day. Alarmingly, according to the Mental Health Foundation, a staggering 50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14. The Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund, together with the help of the Gravesham Community is trying to bridge the gap left in the delivery of mental health counselling services for young people in Gravesham. We are run entirely by volunteers and run as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company.
Since April 2022 we have approved funding and referred 108 young people across nine schools in Gravesham, utilising the available capacity in the private sector. 40 of these have been self-referrals from children as young as 13, who stand little chance of accessing counselling services elsewhere. Early intervention is key to giving these young people hope and the opportunity of a brighter future.
You can help simply by liking our page and sharing our posts; donate raffle prizes for our quiz nights; organise a fundraising event; help with sponsorship or make a donation via our home page. Clubs and Organisations can help by making us your charity of the year – with a projected 120 young people referring over the next 12 months we need to keep this community project going.
All money raised by the community goes to fund counselling. Do message me if you can support.
